Memorial Day

Formally known as Decoration Day where families would decorate the grave sites of fallen soldiers at the time of the civil war, Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for fallen soldiers.

In this time of contemplation, I wish to share some 911 Haiku that my aunt wrote.

HAIKU FOR SEPTEMBER 11
c by Elaine Parker Adams

DE COLORES

Red, white, sadly blue,
Crimson gore and crushed concrete
Washed by fallen tears.

BIRDS

Errant birds make nests
Using straw from steel towers,
Laying yolk-dry eggs.

DUTY

Duty calls, must go,
An empty seat left behind.
Hold it for me, please?

NEW YORK

Hide your tears in pride,
Stalwart through days of trouble,
Your pain will subside.

LADDERS

Ladders to the sky
Fracture into the abyss.
Earth will comfort you.
